Child Find

Child Find (3301-51-03) is a rule which requires school districts to locate, evaluate and identify all students with suspected disabilities attending Lorain County JVS. A "child with a disability" is defined as a student having a cognitive disability (mental retardation), a hearing impairment (including deafness), a speech or language impairment, a visual impairment (including blindness), a serious emotional disturbance, an orthopedic impairment, autism, traumatic brain injury, another health impairment, a specific learning disability, deaf-blindness, or multiple-disabilities.

In addition and in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the American’s with Disabilities Act Amendment of 2008, the Lorain County JVS School District is participating in Child Find efforts to locate, evaluate and identify all students with a disability. In this instance, a student with a disability is a student who has a mental or physical impairment that substantially limits a major life activity and who may, because of the disability, need special education, related services or aids or accommodations/modifications.

The Lorain County JVS School District is asking for your assistance with this important effort. Please help us in our effort to serve those children who may be in need as early as possible. If you know of a child who may have one of the disabilities listed and is not currently in school or receiving services, please contact Denise Scarpucci [email protected] 440-774-1051 ext 22262.
